1950 Buescher 400 Top Hat and Cane Tenor, For Sale! $6k.
All Original Snaps. Pristine Original Lacquer.
Absolutely Perfect Buescher 400 Top Hat and Cane. Buescher's flagship, cream of the crop model.
No expense was spared in the design of this model, manufactured to compete with the premiere horns of the day. And the Top Hat was firmly in the running with all of them.
These horns have, arguably, the richest low end of all tenors, with an astonishingly easy response that continues to surprise everyone - especially those playing horns that already have a beautifully rich, efficient, and highly responsive low end. The Top Hat raises that whole notion to a new level of immediacy and ease.
This horn has, essentially, a fresh Cennamo Woodwinds Rebuild. The rebuild was done in 2017, and since then the horn has basically zero milage on it. The owner, a collector, played it several times and then carefully stored it. The horn looks, feels, and plays as it did when I finished the work in 2017, as can be seen from these photos. Crisp, clean lines on all the adjustment materials, pads, and pad seats. And this horn has the original snaps.
(Of course I combed through it again, but the adjustments needed were extremely minor, they were essentially nit picking matters over my own work.)

When these are set up correctly, and the key fitting is perfect, which is true for this horn now, they are simply unbeatable. They key work design is flawless under the fingers, the intonation is perfect, and the response is immediate.
I love this horn, and you will too.
