SOLD! 1927 Series IV Buescher Tru Tone Straight Soprano. All Original Snaps and White Roo Pads. SOLD!
Just finished this 90 year old beautiful Buescher straight soprano. It had almost a century's worth of key slop and dead springs, but it had never been bent and was in otherwise excellent condition. I used all felt in the adjustment materials making the key action on this horn the most silent of any I have yet put together. As usual, I took a lot of close ups of the pad work so you can get an indication of the attention to detail. There are also some good close ups of the lower stack key work: Demonstrating proper key fit in a photo is almost impossible, but if you look at the ends of the hinge tubes you can see just how close the fit is.
Of course, Buescher overhauls with original Snaps take more time, but there is something undeniably permanent about a properly leveled, properly fitted, and properly seated Buescher Snap In Pad. I love the end result. In the nine years I have been doing saxophone repair here in Seattle, this job is an especially happy ending. I love this horn. Someone is going to be very happy.
If you love that vintage sound, these horns have it, and the Series IV was the best of the improvements on the famed Tru Tone run. This one has the Four Roller Cluster on the Left Hand Table. It'd be wise to pair this horn with a true large chambered mouthpiece to maximize the depth of the tone this horn is capable of producing without introducing intonation issues commonly produced when some vintage horns are paired with modern, or small chambered, pieces. However, when Kate Olson, an in-demand Seattle professional saxophonist, played this horn with both modern and vintage pieces, she said the intonation was equally consistent. The horn comes with the original case in excellent condition with green lining. SOLD! $3000.00
Message from the new owner:
"I've owned a lot of vintage horns, but this one is clearly one of the best. These old horns can be wonderful if well cared for, and set up properly. And I must say you did an amazing job with this sax. It played easily, beautifully, and powerfully, right out of its original case. It's a joy. Thank you again for your great work!"
