Overhauls
Overhauls are $2,500.
Overhauls are the next step and they are quite different from Repads and Tune-Ups.
An Overhaul is genuinely very detailed mechanical repair that involves a great deal of key fitting and provides you with years of longevity, but the key fitting is done to factory specs only.
You will obviously get all new pads, but the pads and resonators will be of your choosing, and your horn will be getting all new adjustment materials. Currently I use synthetic felt and laminated teflon almost exclusively. All your tone holes will be meticulously leveled and chamfered. Rolled tone holes are more labor intensive due to the extent to which filing is reduced, but rolled tone holes will ultimately be faced to some extent. Key work will be refit to factory specs, these jobs are not about zero-tolerance key fitting, that is reserved for Full Mechanical Rebuilds only. The key fitting on my Overhauls will be damn good, like I said, "Factory Specs", but the tolerances will not be as small as that you see on my Full Mechanical Rebuilds. Posts will only be refit to their rods if the play there is excessive. For more information on tolerances read this article I wrote here.

The neck tenon will be refit and lapped-in and the springs will be replaced as needed and balanced. The horn will be cleaned, the bore scrubbed, and the key work and the body will be hand polished.
There will be additional labor charges some things such as: extensive polishing of silver and gold plated horns. bent body tubes that need straightening, failed solder joints that need to be addressed, any key modification that requires silver soldering, full replacement and balancing of all the needle springs if needed, making new oversized rods as needed, making posts bushings as needed, or extensive correction of poor key geometry as needed. I emphasis "as needed" because I only do those things if they are in fact needed and agreed upon. If the mechanical stability of your horn is genuinely not put into question by leaving those things as is, then they will be left as is. |
