The Muscle Car Of Saxophones
1933 Conn 10M Transitional Tenor Saxophone
These pictures say all there is to be said, but I'll ramble on a bit anyway....HOLY CRAP. This horn is ridiculous. This is a beautiful factory re-lacquer. Sometime, probably in the early 50's, this horn was sent back to Conn for an Overhaul, and as was standard at the time, it was buffed and re-lacquered. The engraving took a hit, but the owner of this horn wanted it re-engraved so we sent it to Ryan Walker at Music Medic and he expertly re-engraved it. I took plenty of good close ups so you can see how good it looks.
Aside from the cosmetics, this does all the things you'd expect a 1933 Conn Transitional 10M to do. It is enormous like a New Wonder II, but somehow it's even better. I love that this is the final evolution of the the long running Wonder Series. Conn had perfected the New Wonder and was moving headlong into the future with the space-aged 10M and this horn here is the New Wonder Grad Student. It's all grown up, muscluar, full of

Conn had perfected the New Wonder and was moving headlong into the future with the space-aged 10M and this horn here is the New Wonder Grad Student. It's all grown up, muscluar, full of
itself, and super charged. These are simply unbelievable. The Transitionals are sought after for good reason, they are exceptional amongst a long list of great saxophones.
This was a Full Mechanical Rebuild with 8 new oversized hinge rods, one post bushing, 5 key extensions, crack repair to the neck tenon, 17 new needle springs, major pull down repair on the neck. There is zero, none, absolutely no lateral or concentric play in any key on this horn or in any post. It is so tight. And I do not hesitate to say, it is in significantly better mechanical condition than when it left the Conn factory 85 years ago.
