I took some close-ups of the ring key heights on this R13 because it is routine to see clarinets in the shop with ring key heights that way too high. So high in fact, they impede the horn's overall response. A very critical professional clarinetist came into my shop hoping that I could find out why he was working too hard and experiencing intermittent problems. There was almost nothing wrong with his clarinet, but the ring key heights looked a little too high to me. I made minor adjustments to all the ring keys and told him to try that. He called me later and said, "My life is so much easier now. Thank you so much." Ring key heights are often overlooked, and their importance is underestimated.
This clarinet had one of the most even scales I'd ever heard. It was a joy to play this 40 year old horn.
